Shared Care Obstetrics

Collaborative Pregnancy Care with Ongoing Support
Pregnancy is a unique journey, and many women value the option of receiving regular, familiar care close to home. Independent medical practitioners offer shared care obstetric services in collaboration with public maternity hospitals, providing a convenient and supportive option for women with low-risk pregnancies.

Shared care involves alternating visits between a hospital-based antenatal clinic and doctor. This model allows patients to attend many of their appointments in a familiar general practice setting while continuing to receive midwifery input from the hospital team.

Medical practitioners who participate in shared care support patients through pre-pregnancy planning, early pregnancy confirmation, antenatal care, and postnatal follow-up.
Shared Care may include:
  • Pre-conception and fertility counselling
  • Pregnancy confirmation and referral to public maternity services
  • Routine antenatal check-ups (blood pressure, fetal growth, urine tests)
  • Ordering of standard antenatal screening and diagnostic tests
  • Advice on nutrition, supplements, vaccinations, and lifestyle in pregnancy
  • Postnatal follow-up for mother and baby
Continuity and Convenience Throughout Pregnancy

Shared care allows patients to see a familiar practitioner throughout their pregnancy journey, with the flexibility to attend appointments closer to home. For those who meet the clinical criteria for shared care, this model can help foster continuity of care and strengthen the relationship between patient and practitioner.

Appointments are available for those planning pregnancy or who are newly pregnant and would like to explore shared care options.

All clinical services are provided by independent medical practitioners consulting from Langpark Health in collaboration with approved public hospitals offering shared maternity care.
